Having a child with special needs is like living on a never ending roller coaster. You never know where the next twist or upside moment is going to happen. My son, who has Autism, has had a rough couple of days. Whenever there is a change, it is like he has to climb the highest mountain just to get through the change. To most of us we just deal with the change, but not to a child with Autism. In their eyes, their whole world has just been altered and they don’t know what to do with themselves. They have to go through their own steps of coping until they finally come to grips with the change and this could take a while.
My advice to you is to prepare the child as much as possible as soon as you know a change is coming. Approach them as gently as you can and as positively as you can, depending on the situation. Keep them on a schedule and stay as consistent as you can
